I believe that it’s very important for young people to be aware of the danger of using
the internet. If more people were aware of the problems the internet can cause in reality
and daily life, then maybe more people would try to do something about it.
There are no age limits on websites on the internet which makes it easy for young people to access whatever they want. I believe that if their were web block put on by the goverment for certain age groups then perhaps the internet would be a safer place for everyone.
I don’t think that people should be concerned about wierdo’s on the internet! With MSN messenger no one can talk to you until you accept them before you talk to them so it’s up to you who you talk to. If you do accept them, then if you don’t know who they are you can block them. If they email you then you can block them, or add them to your junk mail! its so easy!
I really hate it when my parents look over my shoulder, i feel like they don’t trust me!

its a privacy thing and its not our fault, we want to be able to talk to our friends on
the net, i havent ever spoken to anyone i don’t know, its just easier to use, plus all
of us teenagers are freakely fast at typing!

the internet is a dangerous place. There all all sorts of sites that u can have your own page on. People should b carfull about the internet and use it appropriatly.
Bebo and my space is fine if you have your homepage accesable 2 who u want, other wise any one can add you. You should not put personal details on the web if any one can see them.

I don’t really think using programs like msn are ‘dangerous’. If someone you don’t know adds you then it’s obvious to just block them. You can also block them if they try to e-mail you…it’s only dangerous if you start replying and chatting to them, then it’s your own fault if they find out where you live and where you go to school etc. It’s only dangerous if you are stupid enough to start talking to strangers on the net, so just use your common sense!
I think young people should be concerned about the use of the internet because you might chat someone on the internet. You might want to meet this person and you find they are not what you expect them to be.
It should be concerned for young peole to use internet because most of them just use it for fun like download game which could bring viruse for computer and sometime they also download a bad movie which strongly against the society. Young people doesn’t have enoght responsibility so they might using it for a long time that could effect their time for study.

Well, I’m not so sure that the internet is JUST a dangerous place. People create the internet, so I say we need to remember that sometimes people do dangerous things. Just as I wouldn’t let my children walk in a city alone at night, I won’t let them travel alone on the internet to places that are not familiar to them.
I think what we need to realize is that the internet is a Public space (regardless of sites like “myspace.com” that make it sound like these places are private). Remember to post on the internet just as if you are posting a paper on the bulletin board at the Mall. Remember to use Common Sense! And, people can say anything they want on the net – it doesn’t mean that it is true.

We should be ver yconcerned about young people’s use of the internet – especially myspace. I spend between 1-2 hrs on the internet per day on regular school days, probably more on weekends.
We can easily get sucked into the internet world, it is so easy to waste hours and hours on the computer.
i think that we should be concerned with young people’s use of the Internet because there are a lot of content in the Internet that are easily accessible that may be inappropriate for our age group.
These days, there seems to be more and more corruption and the Internet, I think, is helping spread that corruption.
Myspace, for example, is a website that almost ANYONE can get access to, including sexual predators and offenders.
Some people post careless things and leave information on the page where a lot of people could see and get to.
I agree with Bernie because it is true that there is no age limit on the Internet and there is rarely a way to ban younger children from explicit sites.
Even if a website is private or protected, it does not mean that it is a safe way of preventing others from seeing it.
There could be numerous ways to hack into the page and view the content, which is the most dangerous part.
No one can see who you are on the Internet unless you post something about it, but you can never know exactly how many or who is viewing your page and getting all this information about you.
Even as I write this comment, I begin to feel that the Internet is a very dangerous place, whether we all realize it or not.
I think that we should be concerned about the internet. You don’t always know what is happening “behind the scenes” of your computer. You can be looking at a site for puppies and someone could be writting files on your computer. Also everytime you sign up for something or put your name on anything that is personal information that people could track you down with. There are bad people on the internet and they will find you if you give them enough of the right information. If you just “keep your wits about you” (something my grandparents might say) you can use the internet properly and safetly.
I think that the internet can be dangerous. There are some wild and crazy things on thre that no parent wants their child reading. On the otherhand, i also think that they have found ways to solve these problems. I know on aim i dont accept anyone to be my friend unless i know who that person is. That way i aviod having to talk to crazy people that i don’t know.
I believe we should be concerned with young people on the internet because they are a lot of weird people that try to manipulate them because they do not know that it is dangerous to talk to a person that you do not know, they think just because its on the computer that its harmless. People can hack into our computers and get our information and many even stalk us.
Some websites on the Internet are not dangerous at all and are fun to go to. There are also many information websites on the Internet that help me with a lot of projects. But there are also many websits that can lead someone down the wrong path and cause many young people to do bad things. Also people can be very mean on the Internet and say things to other people that they would not say to their face. Thsi can really hurt a person’s feelings and cause them to lose freindships and lack a strong self-esteem.
So the internet can be both good and bad.

i think that people today should be concerned with young people using the internet to some degree. i think that parents spend a little too much time worrying about their children using the Internet. I think that the logical thing for parents to do in this situation is to talk with their children about the dangers on the internet and to tell them stories about what happened to other children in the world. This should poke a nerve in the child and keep them alert while using the Internet. I do not think it is necessary for the parent to watch over the childs shoulder all the time or to check their Internet history.

Some of this material available could be very detrimental to a young person, and it could influence them negatively. Websites with adult content can give adolescents the idea that the behavior displayed on the site is actually okay or normal. In addition to web sites with age appropriate content, there are also ways to communicate with people whom you do not know, and you can never be sure that who you think you’re talking to really is that person on the other side. People must be aware of this fact, and if they give out their real information to somebody with whom they haven’t met face to face, then they could be putting themselves in a very dangerous situation. In conclusion, young people using the Internet should be wary of the sites they visit and the people with whom they communicate through the Internet, and parents should especially monitor their children’s online activities.

i think the internet can be a very risky place. you never know what kind of people are out there and the really smart ones can break into your computer and find out your information. Other people just pretend their one of your friends from school on aim and a lot of people just go along with it. They can then get your phone number, address, and even the school you go to! i am very careful when i use the internet and i know not to post personal information or ever give any of my information out to someone.
sometimes, i spend a longer period of time on the internet if i have to do something for homework. But, usually when im finished my homework i like to go on aim and talk to my friends. i never talk to anyone i dont know and if someone sends me a message and i dont know who it is i block them.

For example when are talking online to someone it could one person but also be another that is a stranger to you, and one thing on myspace is if u dont set your myspace to private(which means only your frineds that u added can see it) . Yes, the internet is a very dangerous thing for teenagers or kids of any age. When they are using programs such as Aol Instant Messaging (AIM) or Myspace, they really never know exactly who they are talking to.
When using AIM you don’t know who you are talking to which could result in people getting your personal information. Myspace is probably the most dangerous of all websites teenagers use because it gives your name, were you live, and a picture of yourself, and anyone one can see it.

At any time you could be targeted by an online predator. Even though there are tons of people that you should never talk to some1 you dont know kids still do it. It seems like they have no common sense. There are new stories all over the news about people being hurt because they met a person they talked to online. It makes no sense to meet some1 you met online so dont do it.

I think parents should be concerned with the internet today because there have been so many problems because of the internet with kids today. For example some kids think its ok to meet someone in real life who they have talked to over the internet and most of the times it is not safe. If you teach your child to be more safe and go to more websites you will be safe and another option is to get a blocker to block your child from going to a website.

i think we c an be safe on the internet if we know what to look out for. there are poeple that can and will send people e-mails that they don’t even know, but if you are careful it is less likley to happen to you and if it does you can ignore it if its not that bad. you just have to be careful and use caution.
I think we should be aware of younger people on the internet because today, many people have aim, myspace or another type or program or website that is not private. Aim is ok for kids but you stll should watch out because someone could get your screen name and talk to you and you might not know who it is. Myspace I think no kid should have one because it is open to the world. You can type in any ramdom name and get their personal information. You should always watch your younger sisters and make sure they are on approiate websites and good programs.

I think that the internet can be a dangerous place, but i do not think that it ia as big of a problem as many people make it out to be. Most teenagers just use AIM when they are on the computer. And if someone they do not know tries to talk to them, they can block them. If you know how to use the internet and you are careful not to give out any personal information the internet is a safe place. However it is always good to be cautious.

The internet is not dangerous unless you are careless with using it. While most teenagers and kids know how to use computers, they also do not know most of the risks. Buying things online, going into chatrooms, putting too much information on myspace, it can all be dangerous. However, most teenagers know, or should know, that it’s dumb to put where you live and go to school online where anyone can find it. If people are careful, the internet isn’t a problem. Parents make it a lot bigger deal than it should be because of a couple kids that are stupid about what they do.
Though the internet can be a disgusting and dangerous place for the young people of the world to explore, I believe that if parents and schools teach their children and students how to use the internet properly and not to abuse it, then there should be no concern. The internet has been an amazing source of information and research, center for communication, and entertainment. To deny kids this privilage would be terrible. I spend most of my time on the internet reasearching for school papers and projects or for talking to my friends. I was taught how to use the internet and not abuse it. If other students have learnt what I have. then there is no concern.
I think that we should be watching out for the younger ages in the world population. They don’t know the real dangers that kids face when signing online. There are many predators online. If a child knows not to get in a strangers car, then they should know not to talk to someone they don’t know.
i think the internet can be dangerous but with all the new technology and software you can get for the computer to protect from viruses and pop-ups, parents can also use it to control sites thier children use. but when your parents get all flustered over chating on msn or other IM programmes and stare over your shoulder, it’s Unnecessary as most teens will only talk to who they know and if someone adds you and you don’t know who they are you can just block them to stop them from talking to you. but with the spyware it can sometimes scare me that someone is logging what sites i visit.

We should definetely be concerned! It is so easy to access imformation that we shouldn’t. It is also very easy for hackers to get personal imformation of different places. Parents need to talk to their kids about the dangers of the internet.
I think everyone should be concerned about what happens in the world through the internet. Although, It depends on what is used. If people use website like myspace, they shouldnt put personal information, if something is required that is personal information, lie about it. You dont want to be raped or stalked. I think that the world should be very concerned with young people’s use of the internet. As everyone may know, Myspace is deffianetly the most dangerous … yet everyone has one.
Not everyone realizes the importance of internet safety. Older petifiles these days are so smart, they can hack into almost every website, not matter how “private” it is. I, myself have a myspace … but my mom checks it to make sure everything is safe and appropriate.
Girls think that if they put innapropriate pictures of themselves on Myspace, they’ll “get all the guys and get Myspace comments”.
We hear everyday about girls getting raped from Myspace, and how everyone wants to shut it down. Personally, I think if you think you are mature enough to have a myspace, then you should have to pay the consiquences if your pictures are innapropriate or you reveal too much information
I think we should be concerned with children using the internet. It can be very dangerous and harm young people. There are websites that anyone can get into and talk to you, such as myspace. Which connects people all over the world but people can get stalked, rapped or even killed. Some teenagers don’t realize the harm that they are putting themselfs into. Men can pretend to be someone they are not and can get away with it. So teenagers need to be very careful and need to know what they are getting themselves into. Its important that you not talk to people that you don’t know. But there are other websites other then myspace to where other people can get to see your picture and about you also like facebook. These are not the only websites there are many. So children and teenagers need to be careful in what they do and who they are talking to.
I think that most poeple are too trustworthy when it comes to talking to strangers on the internet, especially kids/teens. They aren’t careful enough about the information that they are giving out, and they don’t realize how serious this can be. I think that the majority of people on the internet are good people, but it is the few weirdos that we have to watch out for.
I think that there should be some concern on the use of internet by teens. However, i think it is important that teens are safe when they use the internet. I also think that most teens have the sense to know what is right and wrong and when they are putting themselves in dangerous situations. Teens are not always smart therefore internet use may be monitered, but only if there is a valid reason. I think teens deserve privacy and respect but should also act safely when using the internet.
Safey on the internet really depends on the person that is using it. I think that if a teenager knows the important safety tips about the internet that it is fine to use. I recently had a myspace but when my parents found it they completely flipped, even though i was safe about using it and didnt put any information about myself on it.
I usually spend about an hour or so on the internet and i think it is very safe. I know how to use all of the sites correctly and i am not ever worried about people finding me through the internet. I believe there is a better chance of someone finding you through the mail than the internet. Whenever i use the internet i make sure not to put any personal information aout there.

Most teenagers think this is harmless, and that nothing bad will happen to them, but it is possible. Also, chat rooms allow teens to talk to those people that they do not know, and these strangers could potentially harm the person. It is also dangerous when people give out very personal information on their myspace or webage. People need to be careful who they talk to and what exactly they do online.
The Internet can be dangerous if we allow it to be. I think it is fine for young people to use to catch up with friends or talk to distant friends/family. However, there are those who do abuse it. Some suffer tragic consequences. This is not all their fault though, there are many adults who abuse the Intenet as well. I think there should be more restrctions.
The internet can be a very dangerous place for young people if they are left to do what they please unmonitered. Things such as myspace especially are dangerous where many teens give out personal information that anyone can easily see. It would be very easy for someone to find out where a teen lives and therefor be able to harm them. However some teens are smart enough not to give out this information. Also there is a problem with teens arranging to meet in person (alone) people they have met on myspace or other online sites. This also is very dangerous and can result in bad situations. Teens can also post innapropraite pictures of themselves or other things on these sites that are degrading and bring bad attention to them (mostly female). Therefore internet access should be monitered for the safety of teens everywhere.
I don’t think that young people’s use of the internet should be a major concern. Everyone uses the internet. I think that the media overreactes to online predators and makes people think that they are everywhere, when in reality they are not. Millions of people talk online, but certainly not all of them are online predators. If people use common sense and remember not to give out personal information, then there should be no concerns.
i think people can overreact about the use of the internet by teens. many of us know what we are doing. however, it would be nice for major websites [myspace, aim, etc] to cut out any unnapropriate advertisements- such as porn or the like. websites need advertisements as sponsers but there is no need for nasty ads.
of course parents should be moderating their kids. No 10 year old should have a myspace or personal website that the world can get on because its not right for a 10 year old to be broadcasting about themselves online- which is likely to happen on accident because they dont know better, unlike kids who are more around the age of 13 or up.
Instant messaging i think, is pretty harmless. People wont know your screenname unless you post it somewhere or hand it out, and if someone you dont like gets it, well, just block them. beyond that, it doesnt give any information away. The user totally controls the program and what someone on the other end of a connection reads. Its a good way to stay in touch.
I think that as long as kids use common sense they will be okay on the internet. Kids should know not to post their full name and exact location on the web where anyone can see. As for instant messangers, you can block people that you don’t know, or set it so that only people’s whos screennames you have on your list (people you know in real life, that won’t harm you) can talk to you.
I think the internet is all about using some good old common sense. Obviously if you dont know a person you are talking to on the internet there is the possibility they are a stalker or whatever, but you can definately protect yourself. Obviously not telling the world every detail of your life is a good start. I think you have to remember whatever you put out on Myspace or any other site is NOT private anymore. If you dont want the world knowing all your secrets, don’t go telling the world. Chats like AIM you can decide who you want to talk to, webpages you can decide on your friends. I think the internet can be perfectly safe if you just know what you’re getting yourself into
As I sit here writing, I realize that many things can be happening. My computer could be hacked by a virus. There could be spybots tracing my movements. An important e-mail to the wrong address could give away privat information, or ruin my chances for success.
But that’s part of using the internet. The internet is not free, and by purchasing this sevice, you are accepting all the risks that come with accessing a world wide web that can also be accessed by anyone else in the world.
Before anyone can use the internet, they should be informed about all the risks, and take procautions like buying virus protection, and scanning their computer everyday or so.
If kids understand the risk, and are willing to accept the consquences of using the internet, then there is no problem with kids using the internet.
I belive that children today, for the most part, use the computer (internet) too much. No doubt, computers are a big part of our world now, so there is no way to completely cut them out. Computers are used for homework and projects, but they are also used for communiction. No doubt, using the internet for communication is extreemely easy. With things such as AIM or MSN messanger, tlaking to people is quick and easy, but in my opinion the kids today are overusing their privelage. Most poeple i tlak to say that they go on instant messager for hours upon hours each night. Not only is that unhealthy but it is adding to the obesity in the US. The more poeple are on the computer the less they are going outside and running around. I do not believe that we should cut out computers, but we should definatly set more limits on the amount that children today are using them.
I think that the internet is wonderful, but it can be very dangerous. With things like Myspace and Facebook, etc. predatores can target children very easily. Plus, there are so many horrible sites, it’s not hard to stumble onto one accidentally!
A lot of kids complain about their parents looking over their shoulder when they are online. My parents, instead of looking over my shoulder, which I too would consider an invasion of privacy, installed parental controls. Now I can’t unwittingly visit bad websites, because it blocks me. Also, I only get emails from people I have put on my contact list. I don’t have to worry about getting emails from predators.
Finally, I don’t use websites like MySpace. That’s just asking for trouble.
All in all, the internet is dangerous, but it is a wonderful tool to email friends, visit (good) sites, research quickly and easily… with a little planning, any child can visit the internet safely.
I think that we should be concerned about our use of the internet. We misuse and overuse it. An example of this is Myspace. Sure it’s great to stay in touch with friends, but don’t write your whole life story on something anyone in the world can see. If you look at kids today, we’re always “online” talking to our friends (I’m guilty of this too). If you look at it in reality it takes almost three times as long to do homework than it does when we don’t have the computer on. When you think about it, the internet and computer could be the reason your not passing in your english homework daily. I’m just nervous because we use the internet so much that we’re hurting ourselves in the longrun. You never know who’s out there, and how who you’re talking to can change life.
Yes, the internet is dangerous so we should be somewhat concerned. But parents should be more attentive to what their children do. I understand as a kid you want your privacy, but maybe you could tell your parent who you are talking to just so they know. The parents can put up blocks so their kids can’t go to certain websites or talk to people that they don’t already know. If you think your child is doing things they shouldnt be doing on the internet than they shouldnt be able to use it at all. I guess we just need to gain our parents trust and learn to be responsible. I think that we should be concerned about how much young people use the internet, because not all internet sites are protected, and not all sites contain accurate information. Some sites may be dangerous for younger children. Websites like myspace enable you to post private information that anyone can have access to. Although, most internet material is highly useful for schoolwork and communication. The internet can be a great tool of knowlege for young people if they use it correctly.
To make sure that I always end up on a website that is reliable and safe, I always search for the topic on a search engine like google, and read the description of each site before selecting the best and most informative site.
On average, I probably spend about one hour a night using the internet,sometimes more, sometimes less. I use the internet mostly for schoolwork, but sometimes I use it for communication with friends and family, and for fun.

I partially agree with people who are concerned because of the dangerous things that can be found on internets today. But, I do not think it would be harmful using things such as AIM or e-mail. You can not meet strangers on AIM or e-mail unless you post it for everyone to see or if someone gives your SN or e-mail address to someone. Chat rooms are, to me, are extremely dangerous. Meeting stramgers from all over the world can seem a little scary. Parents today have a right to worry about what their children are doing on the internet. Also, things like search engines can seem dangerous at times. Whether or not you are searching something simple and easy, you might be exposed to explicit content in the writing and even the pictures. For the younger generation and our generation, we should defenitely watch what we do, be aware of what we are doing, and make sure we have a good source of judgement.

I believe that the use of the internet can be dangerous if young children put out personal information on chat groups, such as MySpace. There are some people in the world that could be harmful to you. You should alway be careful about what you say or put on. When you feel uncomfortible about someone you are talking to, you should imediatilly tell an adult.
i think that the internet is not the best thing that some people should visit. First of all, there is the myspace issue and that leads preditors to stupid kids with no common sence. There is also the google website, kids, adults(which is discusting) can go and type anything they want to and something, i hate to say might not be the best thing to see, especially if you hadnt wanted to see it. Also, pop-ups are sooo anoying! some are just stupid and others are nasty. that is why i think that in some cases, the internet is not the best.
I think that internet safety is a big concern with young people these days. There are always risks invovoled with something as public as that. Usually I only use the internet when I need to for school but I also use it for IMing with my friends. There are ways to protect kids against abuse on the internet such as parental controls and virus blockers but it is still a problem.

I use the internet every day for about a total of two to two and a half hours at the most. I use it for research for school, check my Email, and talk to my friends.
To ensure my safety, I never talk to people I dont know, and I dont open Emails that I am not familiar with. If I have a question or am concerned about something, I always, ALWAYS has for help from an adult. That is the best way to keep safe.
I think some parents should be concerned about their child using the internet. If your child is suddenly meeting people that you don’t know, you should be very concerned. But if your kid is just using aim and talking to people on his/her buddie list that is fine. You should still be asking your child who they are talking to if you do not recognize the screen name. Some parents need to have a little trust in their kids. Some on the other hand should be careful about who your child is talking to and for how long.
I think the youth of the U.S., including myself, spends way too much time on myspace and aim and other online activities. You should be concerned. Once you get on myspace its hard to get off. It’s like a drug and its very addictive and you want to keep talking to your friends. I know this from experience. I am one of those people.

When using the internet it is important for people to watch their actions carefully. If you use your common sence then you should not worry about being harrassed or stalked or anything like that. You need to be smart about how you handle yourself and if you are not then you should not be on the internet.
I believe that young people using the internet is a concern, but that is because they are using it improperly or trusting people too much. On websites such as myspace, kids are meeting up with people they don’t know leading to problems with kids being kidnaped and the like. But the internet is good as long as people are using it for the correct purposes and aren’t spending their life on it.

Though I think that the Internet should be more secure, I believe it is the responsibility of the parents, not internet providers, to ensure their children’s safety. There are plenty of tools available that allow parents to monitor what their children are doing online. Children are the responsibility of the parent, and larger internet providers should not have to be concerned with what other people’s children are doing online.
Young People are going to use the internet no matter what, whether parents or other adults want them to or not. It is part of our generation; the computer is a source of communication and helps to find important information. I do feel we need to make young people more aware of what not to post on the internet, and how to be safer but we should being more concerned with it is not going to do anything. I dont think most people have to worry about kids safety on the internet because now a days there is a lot more securities availible. And honestly, only kids who have been raised in a rough envirement would do something stupid online. Most kids know what they aren’t allowed to do, and will not do those things. i think that internet safety is taken a bit further than it should be. yes, we know that there are meny preditors out there on the internet espicially but news and tv is making parents scared about it so much and and are really hard on kids for it which then makes the kids parinoyed or extreamly stressed or worried. i think they should warn us yes but dont take it to the extreme of taking the internet off the computer and/or only being able to use the computer when ur dad or mom is home. i think we should be able to use the computer when we want to talk to friends/family and check our mail and homework and such. and about myspace, i think we should be smarter about internet and still be able to keep them…i think myspace is nice..i dont ad anyone i dont no unless my cousins knows them or say that theyre ok or whatever but otherwise i dont and i dont give out my adress and i think kids now a days should be a little more carful and parents and adults on news and such should tell us to a certain point..not to scare us so much we dont ever want to meet or talk to anyone..=)
I think that the internet is a very important resource for our society. The computer gives us news, information, and communication. Yes, the internet can be dangerous, but it can also be safe as well. Things like myspace, and AIM can be dangerous, but that is only because the person who is in danger chose to put himself, or herself into that situation. By giving out your personal information you are opening a door for kidnappers, rapest, and stalkers to walk through. By choosing to be dangerous, you put yourself in danger. I think it is very unfare to blame the internet and computers for certain people’s stupidity. I think that it would be nice if computer technology scientists could provide more safety features for our home and office computers, but until the time where we have unlimited safety on the internet, we must think before we put personal information out on the internet; that way we save ourselves.

i belive that kids should be aware of the dangers on the internet. There are many good sources online that can help kids understand the kind of trouble that is on the internet and i think parents should encourage their children to read things like that.
But i do not believe in schools and such blocking things they do not think are right. it is one thing to block off a website because it is not school related, but i think it is another thing for a school to block something becuase they think it isnt a good website to be on, such as personal websites. I can see that it is not related to school, but i have heard of students getting in trouble for having such websites. I do not think it is anyones buisness besides the student’s and their parrents what kids do online. Kids ultimately need to know the difference between right and wrong, and kids should not be punished for other kids mistakes.
I think that we do have to be cautious about young people’s use of the internet because there are many dangerous people that go onto many of the common used sites. I also think though that if people know the risks and know bout some of the bad situations they can get into, then they will be fine. By knowing what can happen you can decide for yourself what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. I think that people should be bothered about how long children spend on the computer because they could be spending too much time and it could effect their knowledge and learning. There should be a time limit in spending time on the computer.
