the major concern for young people in my local area is drugs and their safety at night

  •   Oliver UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 4:38 am

Where i live there isn’t many facilities for people to ‘play’ in. There is too many teenagers 15-18 ruining our streets e.g: Smoking, vandalising and bullying people.

  •   amber uk // Oct 5th 2006 at 4:39 am

chidrem taking drugs and smoking, safety after dark for younger children.

  •   isabel UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 4:44 am

i live in a small village with not many young children. We have a park and a pub. so we don’t have many major concerns. Though it wuld be lovely to have a set of tennis courts. As we have to drive for half an hour to find one. Other than that we have a community centre and there are dance etc… classes there.

  •   Fleur UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 4:52 am

we have a park, a chippie and a news agents. they knoked our post office down. we now have to travel 3 miles to get to another. i think we need a topshop . and an h&m. not everyone migyht agree with that though

  •   Joe UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 8:59 am

I think the most serious problem for teenager’s are that there is a lot of crime at dark and there is also not enough things for teenagers to do, so that is mainly why there is a lot of crime at night time.

  •   kathy UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 8:59 am

we have got loads of places to go, but eveerything is so expensive, and its all scuzzy and dirty (the cinema).- lowestoft is such a bad place to live!!!!! we also need more clothes shops, all of them are for older people, we need a topshop, miss selfridges, logo and more reliable public transport.

  •   Danielle UK // Oct 5th 2006 at 9:49 am

round my area, there are about 5 parks, so in that sense im really lucky, only around the corner, we have a newsagents and a chip shop, but the newsagents is sometimes packed with 17-19 year olds who are causing trouble. But on the whole, my area doesnt really have a problem with young people causing trouble,

We dont have loads of shops in our town like topshop nd So I have to travel to norwich to go to decent shops.

Lack of stuff to do, the town i live in is supposed to be a sea side tourist town but it’s not very good for the people who live there, and our mayor always spends loads of money on pointless statues and fountains.

  •   Tasha // Oct 10th 2006 at 4:52 am

I live quite near Norwich City centre so its certainly not a problem for shops. The problem where I live is mainly that there isnt much to do. There is a park near by which is big and that is where all the gangs hang out so its quite scary. I think that we should have some sort of wardens on the streets all day and night to make sure its safe. I also think that there should be some sort of centre built where everyone (including young children) can can out and have fun without being scared or bullied.

  •   Hannah // Oct 10th 2006 at 5:30 am

in my area its really good as there is a row of shops around both corners, there is also a park, and we can walk to tennis courts, shcool and the city. so we can get decents clothes and stuff. the only problem we have is at the park you do get chavs hangin round smoking and doing other stuff but you can walk to other parks but it takes longer!!!! i surpose im more lucky than others.

  •   tom heywood // Oct 10th 2006 at 5:33 am

  •   catherine // Oct 10th 2006 at 5:34 am

where i live there is not much there is a park and some places to walk but we have to travel 5miles to a paper at our local news agents and i think there should be more also we have little children here and it is not safe because people try and take children from the park so itsnot very safe

  •   Lilly UK // Oct 10th 2006 at 5:36 am

I think that the most important issue is the lack of leasure, because i get bored easily, so maybe if there was a perminant ice scating rinke round here or somthing like thart then i think that would be better because it is sport and its enjoyable!…

    =) thankooo 4 reading!

  •   suty // Oct 11th 2006 at 9:06 am

I think the major concern in my area is trying to walk safely on the streets after dark. This is my major concern because many people in my area have been either raped or beaten.

  •   Deanna // Oct 11th 2006 at 9:06 am

I think the most important issue in my area is the safety in the streets after dark, because in my city, gangs are a concern. Many people, myself included, are afraid of going out and getting beaten up. We are afraid to go out after dark because the streets are not safe: there are drunks and gangs and drug users, so we don’t feel as comfortable as we do going out during the day.

  •   Michael // Oct 11th 2006 at 9:08 am

I thing that I’m most concerned about is the violent people that are always fighting. taking drugs, and even frightening the whole community where the children play and live. Sometimes going outside can be very dangerous unless that child has parental supervision to help the shild in case of an emergency. Or the child can have boardgames at home to play and enjoy with the family. I would go to the park and basketball court and find gangsters hanging around there and stating trouble. So it’s not really safe unless the park is crowded with people you know or people you think is a good person that won’t harm you.

  •   Cindy // Oct 11th 2006 at 9:08 am

One of the major concerns about the young people in my local area is being in a gang fight. And getting into drugs.

  •   Bryan // Oct 11th 2006 at 9:11 am

I think now on the streets theres alot more danger. Theres raping, bullying ,murdering, stealing that are just ruining other peoples lives. I ve seen 13 year olds smoking and knowing that thats bad for you. Also drinking and holding guns. American streets are is not safe anymore.

Around the area I live there are many young people/students that are in drugs that might be illegal drugs. Everyone knows that drugs are very bad for people and I really don’t understand why people hurt their bodies and hurt their families.
If I had a child I would certianly not want my child to go into any drugs,or in smoking, or in anything that would be bad for his/ her health.
I certainly feel bad for people who are in drugs and for their families and friends.

  •   Leilany USA // Oct 11th 2006 at 10:03 am

The major concern about illegal drug because mostly teenagers under age do drugs that they are not suppose to do.I also think that if they do drugs they get in a crime and submit custody and go to jail. Most kids or teenagers that do drugs get killed beacause they are in a gang and the get killed because they can’t do something the gang wants they to do.most drug dealers in the ages of 18 to21 cause trouble in the area’sthey are not suppose to be in. Live near places that gangs and drug dealers are and they get in jail so tthis is why this is a serious problem.

  •   Brianna USA // Oct 11th 2006 at 1:56 pm

Well I just recently moved, but in my old area, we always used to have to worry about the safety on our streets at night, and I lived in the nicer part of town. I never really understoof that the world could be so bad until I moved out of that area and into a more rural community. Here it is so peaceful and quiet I sometimes miss my old home with the police sirens going all night and teh constant worry about break-ins. It kept a person on theri toes. Here, well where I live now, no one locks their doors of ever worrys about what could possibly happen, but I have seen what can happen adn it’s very scary, btu at the same time I stil want to be out on the streets at night hanging with my friends in spit of all the dangers there are out there.

Kids today need a place that they can call home, and where they can run when things get bad. I dont’ think this means that the whole world shout coop up in their houses all day, I actually believe that we should be outside enjoying what we have out there, rather then being trapped inside where nothing can happen to us, beacsue if we are exposed to the bad things in the world when we are younger, then we will most likely to be able to handle them better when we are older.

There is very little in our world today that I think is truly bad, but the things that cna infulence us, leave a big impact. So even thought the problem of saftey is huge, I would rather people be aware and prepared for it, then to run away from it and pretend like it doesn’t exist. If you want to be a partof a community truly then oyu need to know about EVERYTHING that goes on in their community.

In conculsion, I feel the best way to help prevent the feleing of insecurity at night is to be prepared for what could possibly happen to you at ngiht. If you are ready and prepared you are much better likely to handle it with a more calm attitude then if somethign you weren’t expected to happen to you.

Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts.

  •   Page // Oct 12th 2006 at 10:37 am

In the area that I live in the major concern is drugs and gangs.

  •   Lizzy // Oct 12th 2006 at 11:32 am

I think the biggest problem in my area is drugs. Many high school students have smoked pot. I have heard this information from upper classmen that i know by differnt sport activities. It is common that the jocks do not use drugs because they know that it will effect their performance. Some students also have tried or have used cocain. Other drugs that have been used are herroin and perscription pills. Another isssues that goes along with drugs is alcohol. Most high school students do drink and get drunk very often. I know that in my area, seniors mostly get drunk because they dont care because it is their last year in high school. The school system tries to help with different modivational speakers that come in and also differnt orginazations that help with the cause. The kids dont listen and keep drinking because they dont believe that they would ever go to jail, get in an accident, or get kicked out of school. I hope that in teh further years to come that students realize the causes of drinking and using drugs and the percent level of use will be minimized greatly.

  •   Sara // Oct 12th 2006 at 11:33 am

I think that in my neighborhood and small city of Nashua, the biggest concern for young people is the lack of leisure facilities. There is almost no place for kids and teens to get together or “hang out”. Parents do not like us to go to a mall or the movies because not only is it a waste of money, you never know who you are going to meet there. If we had a park with benches and a play ground for kids, there would be less teens at the mall just wandering around, and more young people spending time outside and getting active. My city doesn’t have a problem with teens being destructive, they just don’t have any where to go. It might also help if we could drive, but that’s a different story….

  •   Lauren Fortin // Oct 12th 2006 at 1:15 pm

i think in my neigborhood there are not too many conserns with children staying out late. my neigborhood is very safe it is not on the main rode so there are not too many cars around going up and down the street. in other neigborhoods i know there are many dangerous people hanging around

  •   Bridget // Oct 13th 2006 at 8:09 am

I think the biggest problem in our communuity right now is the use of illegal drugs and alchohol. This has become something that many kids now our getting involved in and ruining thier lives, and other peoples.

  •   Alison // Oct 13th 2006 at 8:10 am

In the community that I live in, I think that there is a problem with illegal rugs especially in the public schools. Many more people are becoming involved in drugs in the past years. Although steps have been taken to decrease the amount of young people becoming involved in drugs, there are still people using illegal drugs.

  •   Emily // Oct 14th 2006 at 5:19 pm

I think that preventing kids form using drugs is very common in my area because police officers and the town council use the DARE program to teach teenagers that drugs can hurt you in many ways.
Also, our town has lots of signs that say things such as: Watch for pedestrians, and blind dirve, so there is a less risk of a crash or accident.

  •   DerekUSA // Oct 16th 2006 at 8:53 pm

Some of the problems in my neighborhood are people smoking illegal substances and underage drinking. Also people are getting in trouble with the police. I am staying away from those people and life seems better. And i hope they know what they are doing to they’re bodies.

  •   Sarah, USA // Oct 17th 2006 at 10:50 am

I think that the major issue in my area is the use of illegal drugs and safety of the streets at night. The issue of illegal drugs seems to be permiating many different aspects of teenage life in my area. Many teenagers my age have experimented with illegal drugs or want to in the future. I will never do something this unintelligent because illegal drugs ruin lives and I’ve seen this happen in my area with, in some cases the loss of the users life. The issuse of safety on the streets is in some cases a result of the illegal drug use. It is not very safe to walk around after nightfall in my area.

  •   Mya UK // Oct 17th 2006 at 2:01 pm

The biggest local concern of the typical teen is most likely what are the big plans for the weekend. Most of the time people end up doing the same thing every weekend, which most people don’t see a problem in. It can just get old sometimes. Compared to some areas of the world, we have a lot more leisure activities but to us its just the same old stuff. This most often leads to drugs and drinking.

  •   jack uk // Oct 18th 2006 at 5:27 am

I’d say drug abuse in our area, theres not really any way of protecting children from it in the park near me its everywhere, neighbourhood wardens dont do anything they just walk about watching

  •   Bria UK // Oct 18th 2006 at 5:28 am

I think the biggest problem in my area is assualt to other members of the public. I live opposite the park and am constantly getting letters through my door about people getting assaulted, it scares me as i live right opposite where someone could have got killed. And it makes me feel unsafe in my own home. I once heard someone shouting at a lady, and therefore made me scared at night. It makes me feel i cant go for a walk during the day either or over the park with my friends.

    xx

  •   Imogen UK // Oct 18th 2006 at 5:28 am

In my area there are no youth facilties at all. The village i live in is near a main road and is basically made up of nothing but houses. The only type of facilitie there that would be catorgorised as “fun” is a drama school. There is a park also but apart form that and the drama school there is nothing. Because of the lack of facilties, this means that chikdren are encouraged to hang around in streets and in housing areas normally getting up to no good. If we had something like a youth club to go to violence and crime would be a lot less!

  •   Jenna UK // Oct 18th 2006 at 5:34 am

In my area we are really lucky because there are lovely people and really nice parks & places! But in spite of all this there still isnt luch 2 do around Costessey ! We have the city near us so we can go shopping or swimming whenever we want but it justy takes longer 2 get there. I think that we need a cinema & shops nearer 2 home ! Also there are usualy quiet alot of events going on in Costessey like fetes & bbq’s and such but we still need some things for the younger people to do in there spare time.

I think that Norwich is a nice place to live but we just need some more things 4 people to do !

Fankooo xXx Jen xXx : )

  •   laura // Oct 19th 2006 at 9:21 am

  •   Hana // Oct 19th 2006 at 11:55 am

The major concern for young people today is their lack of drive to succeed in our community. We should worry because the people of today are our worlds future and should be driven to succeed or we will have a troubled future.

  •   Carolyn // Oct 19th 2006 at 12:40 pm

I believe that illegal drugs a re a big problem we face today because young people are unable to realize the negative effects it has on every aspect of your life. It is an issue that us ruining thousands of lives and it needs to be controlled.

  •   taylor // Oct 20th 2006 at 9:58 am

the fact that sports comes before school work. more kids are worried about becoming proffesional athletes than getting an education for a job they will need if they dont become proffesional athletes.

  •   Chelsi // Oct 20th 2006 at 10:00 am

In my local area, there are really nice people who look after one another, so i am very fortunate. However i do know of people who go home to less fortunate places and worry everynight about seeing their loved ones tomarrow.I am very happy that i do not have to go to sleep at night worrying about violance outside my house or people trying to break in.

  •   jackieee! // Oct 20th 2006 at 10:02 am

Well, i think safety after dark is a big concern for young people. Not as much in my town but in other places, but when i go to the city, i never feel safe. Drugs is also a a big concern, and peer preasure. Its hard to say no when everybody else is doing something you know is wrong.

  •   Caitlin T // Oct 20th 2006 at 10:02 am

I think that today people are verey unsafe in the streets after dark. This causes a problem in our society. If more and more people are left out on the streets after dark, than they could get sick due to the weather. This could cause a decrease in population in the world. When teenagers are left out on the streets after dark it causes a major promblem, for example they might start drugs or might cause trouble. This is a major scare in our society because parents are constantly wondering where their children are today. I think that parents should make a time that they need their kids home and to talk to them more and more everyday about drugs and where they should and should not go!

  •   Juliette L // Oct 20th 2006 at 10:05 am

I think that the major concern is that they are unknown to the fact that terrible things can happen to them. they go out after dark and are not worrying about what could happen to them. Also they do not know sometimes how to handle the situation. Where I live is a nice quiet place where bad events hardly happen, but when they do, it deadly. Kids under 6 go out after dark when there could be someone hiding somewhere waiting know ing that someone is bound to pass by. Parents are being less strict because they think that it will never happen but it can and so that is what I believe is a major concern for young people around my area.

  •   Taylor // Oct 20th 2006 at 12:57 pm

I think the biggest problem is kids having to wat 6 months to drive their friends around. It cuts time out of everyone life, and it is a waste when really everyone should just be able to drive together and have fun.

  •   ally houlihan // Oct 20th 2006 at 1:06 pm

i think that the biggets problem for our youth today is drugs. I have personally seen so many people lose themselevs to drugs and its not fun. It sucks to watch a friend get caught up in drugs and their effects. I really hope that people finally understand that no drug is worth losing your healt or your friends.

  •   Kelsey // Oct 20th 2006 at 1:06 pm

I believe that where i live, everyone is so bored and has nothing better to do then to drink and smoke. I think that we need more activities for kids to participate in.

  •   cinzia // Oct 20th 2006 at 1:24 pm

I like worcester but there isn’t that much to do. We do a lot of the same stuff because we do not know what else to do.

  •   Kate // Oct 23rd 2006 at 1:25 pm

Where I live, there are few facilities where kids can hang out or keep busy, so there are lots of teenage kids out on the streets are night doing things that they shouldn’t be doing and getting into trouble.

  •   Emily // Oct 23rd 2006 at 1:26 pm

The biggest concern of people in my local area would be public transportation. There are no city buses going in and out of the town which causes more cars to be on the road. Also since there are more cars there is more traffic alone with that. Public transportation in my local area is a major problem with alot of people that travel into the city for jobs and school that do not have a car or can not afford one. Public transpotation could also lead to less pollution and less dangerious gases in the air.

  •   Mikayla // Oct 23rd 2006 at 1:30 pm

I think that the major concern for young people today is that there are so many evil people in the world today. I personally feel that there is really no one that you can trust besides family and really close friends. Anybody can buy guns and illegal drugs today without any police officers or any government officials finding out. This is a major problem. In city areas where there may be gangs or poeple with guns are very dangerous places for people of any age. Also, some shows advertise things and create images in childrens heads of what they should do, wear, and/ or say to people when they really shouldn’t. Many TV shows, Movies and Websites portray these images. This adds to the comments on violence in the streets and in cities because many of the movies about this kind of stuff take place in the cities and in areas that a lot of children live in. Personally, i feel that the biggest concern for kids today is that they are growing up in a society where many people arent taught to be nice, polite, and well brought up. I also feel that there is another issue. The other issue i feel is that kids today are growing up in a technologically based society. Many kids are relying alot on technology and are becoming chubby or obese because of the lack of physical activity. This is partly due to their parents, in the fact that their parents dont push them to go outside and to have fun with friends in person, rather than online or over the internet. These are two very important concerns that parents face when looking at children and that children face today.

  •   Loretta // Oct 25th 2006 at 10:40 am

I think that the major problem in my area would have to be illegal drug use. It seems to be so easy for kids today to buy drugs, use them, and sell them. Although they know the circumstances of getting introuble and the horrible affects of drug use, yet kids today still do it. Along with people of all ages.

  •   Sarah // Oct 26th 2006 at 8:32 am

I think the major concern for young people in my community is that there is nothing to do. Because kids do not get involved in extracirruclar activities, they pick up habbits like smoking, drinking, and doing drugs. There are no job opporuttnities or community service aids to tend to. Another concern for young people in my community is that all different kinds of people drive through my community that you could never know what is going to happen if a bad person stops to talk to kids. Also, the center of my community is right along Route 9. This causes danger to all the young children who live along the road because they are not familiar with the rules of running into the street and to not talk to strangers.

  •   Christa // Oct 26th 2006 at 8:33 am

I think the biggest problem in my area for teens is drinking and drugs because they are alot of people who try and sell that stuff and people chose to buy it and ruin their health. Drinking is another concern because there is also alot of alcohol where I live and many teens chose to get drunk, when they chose to drink it or steal it.

  •   terrence // Oct 31st 2006 at 2:29 pm

I think that lowell is a very unsafe invironment. there is a lot of problems going on in lowell. Like drug use ect.

  •   Paul // Oct 31st 2006 at 2:33 pm

The major concern in my area are drugs. Many people in the city of Lowell are selling drugs for money. Another concern is useing the internet for the wrong thing.

  •   Benjamin // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:32 am

The problem in Norwich is that there is crime in the city and there is some people selling illegal drugs and some people use websites for stuff that shouldn’t be on there.

  •   Jordan from 6c // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:33 am

I think that children should be able to play out side with out the worry of drugs and guns and crime
here in the UK people are selling illeagle stuff to Kids because they might not no what they are!I think there should be more police officers on the streat.

  •   Jordan // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:33 am

Where I live is a really good place because it is a culdisac. There is not a
lot of cars but there is a lot of learners about. There are a lot of drugs
round our area and there is a lot of people out at night until 10 o clock.

  •   scott // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:33 am

Where I live there is lots of drugs and lots of teenagers wondering around the streets when it is dark. There is a lot of needles near the garages where I play footy I have seen at least 7 of them. It is not a very nice place to live in and a lot of people get hurt.

  •   leah // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:34 am

Around my area in Norwich there are alot of people who have and sell drugs it is a troubling thing. I think that the drugs should stop and some police should be around to check your houses just in case you have any.If it do not stop then all sorts of thing are going to happen any where any place any time. There could be muggings and stealing thing in shops and being violent.

  •   luke // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:34 am

The thing I don’t norwich because it is full of druggies and there are loads around that are being sold illegally which shouldn’t be aloud.

  •   tara // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:34 am

Around my area there is teenages smashing bottles and smoking. They are making a lot of noise so people can’t go to sleep like me. I have to get up at 5.30 in the morning because my mum goes to work really early in the morning. When i get up because of the noise i cant get back to slleep.Where I go down the park there is a lot of needles and they can be really dangerous. When I am on my bike my tyres could burst.

  •   Tia // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:35 am

Hi on my road there is a car park and every night tenages always smoke and play music from there cars I can never be able to sleep.

  •   Danielle K // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:35 am

Around my area in Norwich there is no problems because it is only a small square.
I like living in my area it’s always really quiet. Sometimes there are burgurlars on the odd accasion.

  •   Courtney // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:36 am

Just down the road from my house there is a carpark. In this carpark a gang of about 17-18 people all between the ages 13-20. They always smoke canabis. The most scary thing is they carry knifes. One person on my road got stabbed in march 2004.

  •   charlotte // Nov 23rd 2006 at 10:36 am

I think that children should be able to play out with their friends with nothing wrong around the area.
And they should be able to be safe and they could look forward up to christmas. But they should not be aloud to touch alokerhole or drugs.

  •   Reece // Nov 24th 2006 at 8:02 am

My area is really quiet and nothing bad ever happens apart from the odd small fight or argument, but once someone got shot it was really serious.

Guess what, our school is under construction as the first school is joining the middle school. I wonder how it will turn out. We are becoming a primary school. It feels weird, with all the noise they’re making.

I think terrorism over land is pointless sooner or later there wont be any land to have wars for. In fact millions of people will eventualy die because of this, the second issue with me is global warming i think its pathetic that the goverment is telling us to save energy, when there building factories and nuclear power plants. I think they should start doing usefull things like giving limits to aeroplanes.

I feel really strong about drug taking because its just dum and stupid. This goes out to all you drug sniffers out there if you really want to take drugs and have small brains and die when your 40 then go ahead. But if you want to live a long and happy life with friends and family then chuck those drugs on the floor and stamp all over them and go get a reall life. thank you for listening =] uyou all ROCK!.

Traveling in the dark lonely streets can be terrible and can be fatal. We need police patrols in every alley, corner and street but we dont have enough to do that. Maybe we should all stay in and not go out at night. Would this be safer?
illegal drugs can be fatal too. Really we should all stop and think about the people that died from illegal drugs and think about what would happen to us. Who knows????
All we know is that with these drugs, life isnt safe anymore.

What is the point? Why do you do it? Taking drugs where is the sense in that? You never realise the danger until you actually come face to face with it. Life is like a box of chocolates you never no what to expect. Why do you hang about the streets at night, you never no what’s round the corner. It may seem cool to your friends, but what about you, do you just do it so you don’t feel left out. Think about yourself not the friends you hang round with, one day you could get in trouble for a crime you did not commit. So think what you do and not what other people do and think.

    Hello notreblog.edublogs.org ! :)
A young couple on the brink of divorce visit a marriage counsellor. The counsellor asks the wife what is the problem.
She responds “My husband suffers from premature ejaculation.”
The counsellor turns to her husband and inquires “Is that true?”
The husband replies “Well not exactly, it’s her that suffers not me.”

I agree that too many children and teens are taking drugs. These hooligans and violent thugs are roaming our streets and abusing our neighbourhood.
